Brain Injury Services was founded in 1989 and was the first case management program for brain injury in Virginia.  We have continued to be the leader in our field and have demonstrated our leadership by providing support and guidance to the state and other organizations who sought to start a case management program for survivors in Virginia and other states.  Our mission is to improve the lives of people who are affected by a brain injury through community-based programs, education and advocacy.

Established in 1994, the mission of the National Resource Center for Traumatic Brain Injury (NRCTBI) is to provide relevant, practical information for professionals, persons with brain injury, and family members. We have extensive experience investigating the special needs and problems of people with brain injury and their families.  With input from consumers and nationally recognized experts, we have developed a wide variety of assessment tools, information booklets and books, and  intervention kits. In addition, the center specializes in providing customized training experiences including workshops and conference presentations.  The NRCTBI is housed at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia Campus.  Many of our staff are affiliated with the Virginia Commonwealth Traumatic Brain Injury Model System.

The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center is one of the country's leading academic medical centers offering state-of-the-art care in more than 200 specialty areas. Consisting of the VCU Health System and the five health sciences schools of VCU, as well as Massey Cancer Center, it stands alone as the most comprehensive academic medical center in Central Virginia. The VCU Health System is the governing body for the hospitals and clinics of VCU as well as MCV Physicians and the Virginia Premier Medicaid HMO.  The health care system is home to the Virginia Commonwealth Traumatic Brain Injury Model System which includes a full array of trauma, inpatient, and outpatient rehabilitation services.  The TBIMS program also includes a wide variety of clinical research programs managed by faculty in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
